APPROACHING GOD

Welcome

We acknowledge that the land upon which we gather is unceded Mi’kmaq territory. Epekwitk (Prince Edward Island) is covered by the historic Treaties of Peace and Friendship. We pay our respects to the Indigenous Mi’kmaq People who have occupied this Island for over 12,000 years; past, present and future.

Preparation for Worship:

Lighting of the Christ Candle:

*Introit #4MV: “All Who Are Thirsty” (Rev Rachel with Choir v1, congregation join in for v2)

Call to Worship: (Written by Rev. Rachel and influenced by Psalm 104:24-34)

One:  Look, pause and be present.  The great works of God are full of wisdom.

All:  Loving Creator we rejoice and are thankful.

One:  We look to you for nourishment and guidance.

All:  You embrace us with love and remind us we are not alone.

One:  You touch all of creation with such wondrous care.

All:  Loving Creator we sing to you our praise.  Amen.

*Hymn #12MV: “Come Touch Our Hearts” (vs 1-4)

*Gathering Prayer: (Written by Rev. Rachel and influenced by Acts 2:1-21)

Holy God, together we come to worship from many different places and holding up many different concerns.  Like the first Christian communities we have our own stories to share.  Remind us to lift-up each person and celebrate diversity.  To listen with ears of wisdom.  To understand from a heart of longing.  Give us the courage to open our eyes and allow Holy mystery to surround us.  Pour out your Spirit upon us, commission us to listen, and encourage us to respond with love.  In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Affirming Ministry: Our Affirming Ministry project is working toward Trinity becoming an Affirmed Ministry and we are learning! Did you know that in 2025, The United Church of Canada offered an apology to 2S and LGBTQIA+ people and communities—naming the real harm caused through words, actions, silence, and systems that failed to protect and affirm God’s beloved people? The Moderator’s Pride Message (can be found on The United Church of Canada’s YouTube channel) reflects on that apology—not as an ending, but as a beginning. A threshold into deeper healing, accountability, and transformation. Pride is more than celebration. It is remembrance. It is resistance. It is a witness to the sacred truth that every identity rooted in love and authenticity is a divine gift. Radical belonging is not optional—it is at the heart of the Gospel.  May we continue the work of becoming a church that learns, acts with courage, and lives out love in word and deed. Happy Pride!
