The Rev Dr. Andrew Richardson:
Andrew hails from Halifax but is now in team ministry at Trinity United Church in Summerside, PEI. A graduate of the Atlantic School of Theology he was ordained in 1988 and has served congregations in Plaster Rock and Fredericton (Forest Hill), and Moncton, now Summerside. He received his doctorate from Columbia Theological Seminary in 2007. His Thesis was a study of the ethical implications of friendship.
In recent years, Andrew has become interested in the theology of generosity and has given talks and workshops across the country. He has served the church at every level and is nominated for Moderator of the United Church of Canada, which will be decided at General Council in August.
Andrew has been actively involved in the wider community; as a basketball coach; religion columnist for the Moncton Times Transcript; and served as the Chair of the largest school district in New Brunswick. He has taught at UPEI Seniors College, Atlantic School of Theology and Atlantic Baptist University. Andrew is the former chair of the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Committee for the city of Summerside, a member of the Premier’s action committee on Family Violence, and the City of Summerside Planning Advisory Committee and the Board of Regents at Mount Allison University. He enjoys sailing, hockey and music.
Andrew is married to Janet Surette, who works with special needs students at Three Oaks High School as an educational assistant. Janet and Andrew have three children, Alexander, Olivia and Noah.
